About us

Des has over three decades of experience in insurance. He joined MBC in 1999 and became Managing Director in 2020. A Certified Insurance Practitioner, he’s a former President of the Insurance Institute of Cork and founding member of the Broker Federation of Ireland, where he still serves on the board.

Brían McMahon began his insurance career with MBC in 2006. He is now a Director, overseeing new business sales, product development and commercial operations within the business. A University of Limerick graduate and Certified Insurance Practitioner, he specialises in technology, construction and equipment hire insurance. He launched Techinsure.ie and tool hire protector, and played a key role in opening the Kerry office in 2017. He's also a former President of the Insurance Institute of Cork.

Shane began his career in 1990 as a Commercial Underwriter and became a Business Development Manager in 1997. He joined MBC as a Director in 2002, leading the integration of Lordan Magnier Insurance. Today, he manages key accounts, supports sub agents nationwide, and oversees the craft brewers and forklift hire insurance schemes.

Philip has extensive experience in the insurance industry, having begun his career in 1988 with international broker Bain Clarkson (now Coyle Hamilton Willis), where he worked as a broker. He subsequently spent five years with Alan Tierney and Partners before progressing to the role of International Network Manager with leading global insurance broker Willis Corroon. This breadth of national and international experience laid the foundation for establishing Phelan Caswell Insurances and continues to underpin his leadership within Clear Insurance Ireland today.

Denis began his insurance career with MBC Insurance in 1983, and qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute in 1990. In 1996, Denis was appointed Director of MBC Insurance and 10 years later became Managing Director. In 2007, Denis oversaw the launch of MBC Financial Ltd. Denis now serves a Compliance Consultant within the business.

Andrew graduated from University College Cork in 2018 with an Honours degree. He previously spent 3 years working in the Financial Services industry before joining MBC Insurance in March 2022. Andrew is a Certified Insurance Practitioner. He began working in our personal lines team. In mid 2024, he moved to the commercial business team.

Anne has been working in the insurance business in Cork for numerous years in a variety of roles from general insurance to health insurance. Anne joined MBC Insurance as Commercial Account Executive working alongside Des. She is APA qualified in personal insurance and is working towards Certificate Insurance Practitioner.

Caitrín joined the MBC Insurance team in 2018, specialising in commercial and personal lines, particularly business, commercial property, fleet, construction liability, home and motor insurance. Caitrín spent over three years in the motor trade after qualifying from University College Galway in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts. Caitrín holds an APA Financial Qualification and is also Certified Insurance Practitioner and Approved Product Provider qualified.

Daria commenced her career with MBC Insurance in 2010 as a part of the accounts department. She currently handles all insurer settlements and queries. She is actively working toward her ATI qualification.

David joined Clear Insurance Ireland in 2015 as a Personal Lines Executive and moved to a Commercial Account Executive role in 2016. He now manages his own portfolio, specialising in commercial property, liability, tradesman, motor fleet, professional indemnity, cyber and tech insurance. He holds an MBS and BComm from UCC, CIP and MDI from the Insurance Institute of Ireland, QFA through the LIA and he's working towards his ACII.

Deirdre's insurance career began with Glennon Insurance, Dublin in 2003, then AON in Limerick, before joining MBC in 2010. Now a Commercial Account Executive, she manages her own portfolio specialising in property, liability, tradesman, motor fleet and tech insurance. A Certified Insurance Practitioner, she has been based in the Kerry office since 2017.

Jake joined the Kerry team of MBC Insurance in July 2021. He works in our personal lines team, household and motor in particular. Jake holds a BSc Honours degree in Accountancy from University College Cork. He is also Certified Insurance Practitioner qualified.

James qualified from Munster Technical University in 2008 with an Honours Degree in Business. He began working in insurance in 2009 with AXA, primarily in personal lines, progressing to SME and farm business, with focus on business development within the southern region. A Certified Insurance Practitioner, James joined the business insurance team at MBC Insurance in 2022.

John began his insurance career in 2013 with MBC Insurance. He was appointed Associate Director in 2021 and promotes new business initiatives and development. A Certified Insurance Practitioner, he has master’s degrees in risk management and insurance, and quantity surveying. In 2017, he played a key role in opening the Kerry office.

Mark joined Clear Insurance Ireland in 2021 and specialises in Cyber and Technology Insurance, leading Techinsure.ie. His expertise also spans manufacturing, construction, hospitality, life sciences and professional indemnity. Mark completed the Management Diploma in Insurance (MDI) in 2025. In addition to his professional role, Mark serves as Sports and Social Officer for the Insurance Institute of Cork Council.

Nora joined the Kerry office in September 2025 after graduating from University of Galway with a bachelor’s degree in commerce. She's currently working in the commercial lines team. Nora is working towards completing her insurance exams.

Noreen recently graduated from Pitman Training, Kerry after completing a Secretarial Diploma. She previously worked in retail for 4 years before deciding on a career change. She joined the Kerry team in September 2019 and works in our motor and home insurance team. Noreen is Approved Product Provider qualified.

Patrick joined Clear Insurance Ireland in June 2025, bringing over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. Patrick has specialised in Personal Lines insurance throughout his career, specifically home, motor, and high-value property cover. He's a past winner of the Brokers Ireland Broker Achievement Award.

Rebekah joined the Clear team bringing 17 years of customer service and administrative experience. After working as a medical administrator for a number of years, she chose to pursue a new direction in the insurance industry. Rebekah now works within the Personal Lines Department and has recently qualified as an APA Product Advisor specialising in motor and home insurance.

Rose O’Mahony holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from UCC and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. She has also completed a Certificate in Risk Management and a Diploma in Internal Audit. Rose has extensive experience in SMEs, financial services and multinationals, in both the public and private sectors. Rose joined MBC Insurance in July 2019 as Finance Manager.

Sinéad joined MBC in 2014 after graduating with an honours business degree from Cork Institute of Technology. Starting in personal lines, she became a Commercial Account Executive in 2016 and now manages her own portfolio, specialising in property, liability, fleet and professional indemnity. She is a Certified Insurance Practitioner.

Fiona Gill joined Phelan Caswell in October 2000 following completion of a Business Studies degree. Initially appointed as PA to Mark Phelan, she progressed to Claims Manager and assumed responsibility for leading the firm’s Claims Department, with particular oversight of large commercial portfolios. Fiona serves as Office Manager at Clear Insurance Irelands Dublin office overseeing the effective day-to-day operations of the business.

Mark was Managing Director and co-founder of Phelan Caswell Insurances (1998). He led the firm’s strategic direction, ensuring the delivery of tailored insurance and financial planning solutions grounded in expertise and integrity. Previously Deputy MD of Willis Ireland, he advised corporates on multinational and alternative risk programmes. His career included a directorship at Alan Tierney & Partners and earlier experience with Aon Group

Declan has over 15 years’ experience across Irish and international insurance markets, specialising in commercial insurance and scheme development. He builds and places programmes from the ground up, from facilities and master policies through to binder arrangements as a cover holder, managing insurer relationships, compliance, and bordereaux reporting. He advises clients across construction, hospitality, entertainment and events, manufacturing, charity, and large property risks.

Kevin worked as a Business Development Executive with international insurers and Irish brokers from 2011. He brought over a decade of experience managing insurance programmes for multinational and owner-managed businesses. Specialising in commercial lines, including manufacturing, hospitality and distribution, he had particular expertise in construction, establishing schemes nationwide. A member of the Insurance Institute of Ireland, he held Chartered Insurance Practitioner status.

Patrick served as a Financial Advisor with Phelan Caswell Insurances, supporting individuals and families in achieving their financial objectives. A Qualified Financial Adviser (QFA) and Retirement Planning Professional (RPP), he brought four years’ experience in protection planning, investment strategy and retirement solutions. He adopted a comprehensive, client-focused approach, developing tailored financial plans designed to deliver long-term security and sustainable growth.

Anna joined Phelan Caswell Insurance in February 2024, bringing broad experience from roles outside the insurance sector. She managed day-to-day accounting operations, including client cash receipts, bank reconciliations and journal postings for management accounts. Her strong analytical skills and attention to detail ensured accurate reporting, regulatory compliance and the efficient management of the firm’s financial processes.

Conor joined Phelan Caswell Insurance in February 2024, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance. In September, he commenced the Insurance Apprenticeship Programme, further developing his expertise within the industry. With a strong analytical foundation and commitment to professional development, he was well positioned to contribute meaningfully to the firm and support its continued success.

Fiona started in the insurance industry in 1991. After several years with an insurance company, she moved to broking in 1999 joining Phelan Caswell Insurances in July 2003. Initially focused on personal lines, she transitioned to commercial insurance in 2008, developing extensive experience across the SME sector and larger corporate risks.

Aoife joined Phelan Caswell in February 2024, bringing prior experience from the Accounts Department of a brokerage firm. With a strong financial background, she transitioned into a commercial administration role, embracing new professional challenges. She subsequently commenced her insurance examinations, working towards APA and CIP qualifications to further develop her expertise within the industry.

Davina joined Phelan Caswell Insurances in 2023. Davina has more than 20 years’ experience in the financial services sector and is a Qualified Financial Adviser (QFA). She transitioned to Broking in 2019 after 18 years with Irish Life. Committed to delivering exceptional client service, she plays an integral role within the financial planning team.

John was Director of EBIB Insurances, where he played a central role in delivering specialist insurance solutions to Ireland’s horse racing and equestrian sectors. He helped guide the firm’s development as a niche provider known for its deep industry knowledge and client-focused approach. Following the acquisition by Phelan Caswell Insurances, he supported the transition while maintaining continuity of service and strengthening relationships across the equine community.

Christian has been working in a customer service industry for over 10 years. A change of direction brought him to the insurance industry where he now has 11 years’ experience in the personal lines sector, focusing specifically on cars, vans & houses, He joined Clear Insurance Ireland in Jan 2026 working in our Kerry office.

Joyce joined the Kerry office of Clear Insurance Ireland in March 2026. She began her insurance career with Frost Insurances in Limerick in 2007 before relocating to Australia, where she spent 15 years working within the Australian insurance industry. Joyce is currently a member of the Commercial Lines team and is working towards achieving the Certified Insurance Practitioner designation. (CIP)

Jack graduated from UCC in 2017 with a Finance degree before joining KPMG Ireland’s Graduate Programme. He spent nearly six years with KPMG working across taxation and consultancy while completing his professional exams in both accountancy and tax. Jack became a member of Chartered Accountants Ireland and the Irish Tax Institute in 2021.

Alana began her career in the insurance industry in 2022 after graduating from the University of Limerick with a Bachelor of Arts in English and History. She is CIP qualified and has over three years of experience in Personal Lines, previously working with McCarthy Insurance Group and Gallagher. In 2026, Alana joined the Kerry office as part of our Personal Lines team.

Donna joined Phelan Caswell Insurances in September 2006 as a Client Service Executive. Prior to this she worked in Coyle Hamilton for 7 years beginning as a Personal Lines Broker and progressing to a commercial role in the small business unit and in this time obtaining a Diploma of Insurance Practice. She specialises as a Senior Client Service Executive working with Company Directors & Account Executives on varying levels and types of large commercial and corporate accounts.
